Gen. Joseph T. McNarney, American commander in Germany, and members of his staff attended a Chanukah party for displaced Jewish children in Lichtenfels this afternoon, as more than 20,000 Jewish children celebrated the festival throughout camps and cities in the American zone.
At the Lichtenfels party, which was organized by the soldiers of the U.S. First Division, McNarney made a short informal speech. The party was attended by 500 children from the Lichtenfels child center and the nearby Lampertheim camp. Tonight, 400 children from the Struth center and neighboring communities were the guests at a party where gifts collected by civilian personnel at the Nuremberg war crimes were distributed.
