A general census of the population in the Union of Socialist Soviet Republics was begun yesterday throughout the Soviet Union.

The questionnaire prepared includes questions relating to the mother tongue and the nationality of the inhabitants. Jewish organizations, the Soviet press and the Yiddish Soviets are assisting in the census.

In many districts, the questionnaires are framed in Yiddish. It is expected that much valuable data will be collected as a result of the census, which will show the exact economic situation of the Jewish population.
