Delegates to the European Conference of General Zionists concluded their conclave here with a resolution welcoming Prime Minister Eshkol’s declaration on Zionism as indicating “a new and positive attitude toward the Zionist movement” but asking also that “this declaration be translated into realities.”
The resolution added that the task of the Government should not be limited to cooperation with the World Zionist Executive in education, culture and youth work. It stressed that the Government’s task also was to help the Zionist movement to renew its status, influence and leading role in Jewish life. In another resolution, the delegates said that the “great task” of the General Zionist movement was to strengthen and increase its unity.
The conference appealed “to all sections and organizations of the Jewish people to mobilize their efforts and forces for systematic action for the rights of the Jewish community of Soviet Russia.” The delegates also expressed “great concern” over the fact that the West German Government had not undertaken “necessary and effective steps” to halt the work of West German scientists on advanced weapons systems in Egypt.
