The National Geographic Society, defining geographical divisions of the world, has separated the Near East from the Middle East and placed Israel in the Near East.
The Society said here that Israel should be included in the Near East with Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, and the countries of the Arabian peninsula. The countries of the Middle East, according to the Society’s definition, are India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Sikkim and Ceylon.
