George McGovern said he could have bombed the Auschwitz concentration camp when he was an Air Force pilot during World War II. McGovern, a former U.S. senator and the 1972 Democratic nominee for president, said in an interview aired Tuesday that the Franklin Roosevelt administration made a “strategic mistake” when it chose not to order bombing raids on the camp’s gas chambers.
