Rabbi Alter, the Gerer Rebbe, the famous Hassidic Rabbi of Gur-Kalvaria, left Warsaw to-day on a pilgrimage to Palestine. He is accompanied by his wife, his brother, Rabbi Mendel Alter, the Chairman of the Executive of the Union of Polish Rabbis, Mr. I. M. Levin, the President of the Agudath Israel Organisation in Poland, and other members of his family and of his personal suite, numbering altogether 19 persons. The Rabbi and his party will stay in Palestine for six weeks. They are taking the land route through Central Europe and Constantinople, in order to avoid exposing the Rabbi to the difficulties, of a sea voyage. A number of prominent members of the Agudath Israel in the Western countries will join the party en route and proceed with the Rabbi to Palestine.

Thousands of Gerer Hassidim were at the railway station taking leave of their Rabbi. A big force of police was on duty keeping order.

A party of 70 Haluzim left for Palestine on the same train.
