German Authorities Ordered by Allies to Enforce Ban on Anti-jewish Discrimination

German officials will be responsible for seeing to it that anti-Jewish discrimination is not practiced in Germany and that Allied orders concerning confiscated Jewish property are enforced, it was emphasized in a broadcast here today summarizing the 48-point proclamation issued yesterday in Berlin by Commanders-in-Chief of the American, British, Soviet and French armies, legalizing Allied control of various phases of German life.

The section dealing with the restoration of Jewish rights is embodied in Point 42 of the proclamation. It says: The German authorities must obey all prescriptions concerning the abolition of laws dealing with color, racial and religious discrimination. The German authorities must obey all orders issued by the Allies concerning property, assets and rights and interests of persons discriminated against previously by Nazi legislation because of race, religion, color, language, etc.

The following point in the proclamation provide that “nobody must be molested by the German authorities, or by German subjects, or persecuted on account of religion, race, color or language or political leaning.” Another point emphasizes that “in all procedure before German courts it has to be taken into account that all those stipulations of German law are null and void that are in contradiction to the proclamation of Germany’s unconditional surrender and all proclamations, orders and decrees issued on the basis of this proclamation.”
