Representative Samuel Dickstein,in an interview over the long distancewire at Washington, yesterday declared that new evidence ” of a most discouraging nature”has come to light to indicate that German battleships are carrying Nazi Propaganda into the United States.
Dickstein reported that German battleships “paying a friendly visit to the United States” were found disbursing large quantities of Nazi literature along the Pacific Coast. When asked for the names of the battleships, the representative declined to discuss the matter in detail, stating that he could not jeopardize his investigation of the matter by “giving out too much information before the investigation is completed.”
The congressman did say, however, that one point at which the propaganda is being unloaded in San Francisco.
He also declared that he has documentary evidence from military authorities, which will tend to prove conclusively that “Hitler’s peace talk is a lot of bunk.” He says that the documents were taken inot this country and that they bear official authorization.
Mr. Dickstein said that his resolution for the creation of a special congressinal committee to investigate Nazi activities in the United States will be moved in the House of Representatives next week.
“The Committee on Rules, which passes upon the resolution appear to be unaniously in favor of the investigation,”he said. “I have no difficulty.”
