German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder was among the hundreds of people who turned out Tuesday at a memorial service for the nation’s Jewish leader. Ignatz Bubis was “a moral authority, a lawyer for minorities and persecuted people, which won him respect not only in Germany, but also in Israel and around the world,” Schroeder said at the service at Frankfurt’s West End Synagogue.
