The German Government’s bill for compensation for victims of Nazism does not in its present form cover all those who were imprisoned in concentration camps, Foreign Under Secretary Anthony Nutting revealed here today.
In a written reply to Conservative M. P. Major Tufton-Beamish, who had questioned whether the German law discriminated between German and non-German victims, Sec. Nutting disclosed that the UN Refugee High Commissioner had informed the Allied High Commission in Germany that the bill did not cover all former camp inmates. Sec. Nutting said that the bill seemed to satisfy Germany’s legal obligations in this matter, but that the point raised by the High Commissioner was being considered.
