Nine Dusseldorf court officials, who have been participating in a trial of 10 former Nazis charged with killing 700,000 Jews at the Treblinka concentration camp, left today for New York, Montreal and Caracas to hear witnesses who, for various reasons, could not come to Germany to testify in the trial.
At the same time, at Frankfurt, where 22 former Auschwitz-Treblinka camp personnel have been on trial for 17 months, the prosecution today started its final summations. Chief Prosecutor Fritz Vogel demanded the maximum sentence–life imprisonment–for three of the defendants, Hans Starke, Klaus Dylweski and Pery Broad. He said that Starke helped send 1,000,000 Jews to the gas ovens and the two others methodically killed Jews.
