A three-cornered battle among the DAWA, the Friends of New Germany and the Federation of German Societies has made it difficult to procure speakers for the German Day celebration here Sunday.
Felix Schmidt, Nazi editor and head of the local “Friends,” refused to make an address at the celebration, which is sponsored by the United German Singing Societies. John V. Schliederer, president of the Federation, has been dropped from the speakers’ list for “not responding to an invitation.”
It is also expected that Mayor Zimmermann will refuse an invitation to speak.
Nazi propaganda will be barred from Genesee Park, scene of the celebration, it was announced. Swastikas will be prohibited. It is believed that attempts to sell the German-American Front, DAWA paper specifically banned, will be made at the fete.
