Acting upon the suggestion of the Mexican authorities, the Central Jewish Committee here has started registering Jews born in Axis countries. The Committee is also issuing to Jewish refugees from the Reich special certificates testifying that they are Jews. These certificates, it was stated here today, will be recognized by the Mexican authorities as identity documents on the basis of which Jewish refugees will be classified as “stateless people and not as German citizens who are now considered enemy aliens in Mexico.
Lists of Jews born in Axis countries, including Jews who have acquired Mexican citizenship, will be submitted by the Central Jewish Committee to the Ministry of Interior for the purpose of securing for them exemption from the laws now governing natives of Germany, Austria, Rumania, Hungary, Bulgaria and Italy. The exemptions will be granted only to those recommended by the Committee after special investigation.
