Paul Pagel, Minister of Interior of the province of Schleswig-Holstein, in the British zone of Germany, has instructed the police to prevent any demonstrations against Veit Harlan’s latest film, “The–Immortal Beloved.”
The appearance of the film in various parts of Germany and Austria has resulted in demonstrations by Jews and other anti-Nazis and, in some cases, attacks on the demonstrators by neo-Nazis and the police. The reason for Minister Pagel’s action, he said, was that “the results of properly conducted denazification proceedings must be respected under all circumstances.” Harlan, who produced the anti-Semitic film “Jew Suess” for the Nazis, was four times acquitted by German courts of crimes against humanity.
