A former German police captain, Helmut Saur, was under arrest here today on charges that he had helped murder 1,200 Jewish children and invalids in a Russian ghetto during the war.
Officials said that Saur, now a police clerk in Furth, Bavaria, headed a police unit which searched the Pinsk Ghetto in November 1942 for children and sick Jews. The 1,200 victims were dragged out of buildings and executed in the ghetto yard, according to the charge.
