Members of the Deutsche Volks Union, a neo-Nazi political organization, will be expelled from the German National Police Union, the union decided Wednesday at its convention in Dresden.
According to the police union’s resolution, the DVU, whose name translates as German People’s Party, was characterized by “animosity to trade unions, nationalist goals and anti-Semitism.”
DVU membership is incompatible with membership in the police union, the resolution said.
Similar measures have been taken in previous years against police officers who were members of the German National Party and the Republican Party.
However, the decision does not apply to actual service on the police force. Thus, even policemen expelled from the union can continue to serve.
