The German press reaching here today launches a renewed campaign against Dr. William Filderman, President of the Union of Jewish communities in Rumania, which was dissolved by the Antonescu government last week. Several weeks ago Dr. Filderman was reported to have been sent to a concentration camp by the Rumanian authorities.
The Nazi newspapers accuse Filderman of being an espionage agent of Britain and America. Great anxiety is reported to be felt in Rumanian Jewish circles concerning their leader’s fate at the hands of the Rumanian Nazis.
