Numerous German newspapers today published articles supporting the decision of the Bonn Government not to sell arms to Israel. The newspapers commented favorably on a statement issued yesterday by the Adenauer Government indicating that Israel cannot expect arms from West Germany.
A spokesman for the government, said it was against the policy of the Bonn Government to ship arms to areas of conflict. Surprise was expressed over Israel Premier David Ben Gurion’s announcement that Israel would seek submarines from West Germany. It was pointed out that arms were specifically excluded under the German-Israel reparations pact.
