Erich Lueth, initiator of the “Peace with Israel” movement in Germany, returned here today from a 17-day tour of Israel full of enthusiasm for the accomplishments of the Jewish State and impressed with the might of the Israel Army. Mr. Lueth’s trip was made at his own expense.
While in Israel, it was learned, he traveled incognito — at the insistence of the Israeli authorities who feared the possibility of his being attacked by extremists if it became known that a German was traveling in the country. “Erich Hamburger,” as Mr. Lueth was known, visited many Israeli cities and kibbutzim in a 2, 300 mile tour of Israel. He was constantly accompanied by Israeli secret service agents who saw to it that he changed his address and the car in which he traveled every few days.
