The Council of German Minister-Presidents of the three states and Bremen in the U.S. zone of Germany today repeated a Nazi racial law of 1938, which required all Jews to adopt the identifying first name of Israel ## Sarah. The Council also ordered the restoration of citizenship to all persons ## were deprived of it for political or racial reasons.
The repeal of the name legislation merely made official a policy which ## in all four zones of Germany. However, it is intended to prevent local ## officials from compelling Jews to use such names on identity cards, on ## basis that the law is still on the books.
