The “Peace with Israel” movement in West Germany has inaugurated a campaign designed to influence the Bonn Government to immediately press for ratification of the German-Israel reparations program in the German Bundestag.
The campaign, which already has the support of an impressive list of prominent authors, educators and theologians including 24 Catholic professors, will attempt to convince the Germans that delay in approving the treaty will injure Germany’s prestige abroad.
Meanwhile, a report has been received from Cairo that as a cons equene of the activities of Dr. Gunther Pawelke, German Ambassador to Egypt, a German-Arab agreement intended to dissolve Arab opposition to the Israel reparations pact is imminent. The Egyptian Government is pictured as having come around to an understanding of the German viewpoint on the reparations pact.
