The information that Adolf Eichmann, head of the “Jewish Department” in the Hitlerite Gestapo, is now residing in the oil sheikdom of Kuwait, was received from West German authorities, it was revealed here today. (See earlier report on page 3.)
Tuviah Friedman, director of the Center for Documentation of Nazi Crimes, at Haifa, today met with Tel Aviv police chief J. Nahmias, and formally passed on the intelligence about Eichmann’s whereabouts. Chief Nahmias, however, refused to discuss the case, declaring that further publicity might result in “difficulties.” It is known that Interpol, the International Police organization, is working on the case, as well as the police authorities of several countries, including Israel.
Eichmann, missing for years, was the deputy to Heinrich Himmler, and is considered the Nazi who was directly in charge of the extermination of 6,000,000 Jews. West Germany is understood to be preparing to seek his extradition from Kuwait.
