The 687 Jewish returnees to Germany who registered with the Bavarian authorities up to last Monday will be granted legal status, it is widely believed here. However, future “illegals” –returnees who enter Germany without Visas and residence permits–will be severely dealt with, it is expected.
The Bavarian authorities are constructing a police post at Foehrenwald camp–the last remaining camp for Jewish DP’s in Germany–and a staff of a dozen or more men will be based there. In addition, it is reported that a large number of plain-clothes men will be assigned to the camp. The nearly 700 “illegals” who registered in the census included a number from various German cities as well as those living in Foehrenwald.
