The Federal Government is not in a position to take a final stand on the current calendar reform proposals against which Jews object, and recommends that the United Nations should more extensively canvass the views of the Christian Churches and of the other denominations according to an official reply that will be given to UNESCO.
The Federal Government in its statement to UNESCO acknowledges that the proposed reform would have certain beneficial effects on economic life, but voices misgivings whether a matter of this kind should be judged from the utilitarian point of view alone.
