Germany pressed Syrian President Bashar Assad to accept the Mitchell plan as a basis for establishing peace in the Middle East. “It is very important that Syria will have a constructive role” in helping ease tensions in the Middle East, German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer said after meeting with Assad in Berlin.
