A West German Government spokesman said today that signing of a treaty by which the Government has agreed to pay 400,000,000 marks (about $100,000,000) in compensation to France was expected shortly. The money will be used to compensate victims of the Nazi occupation of France.
Negotiations last year reached an impasse when France asked indemnification not only for persons persecuted for religious and ideological reasons but also for those victims who were members of the underground movement. The issue was resolved by an agreement to permit the French Government to determine the categories of persons to be indemnified.
