Ton prominent Jews, including Rab Samuel, were arrested in Oslo yesterday by the Gestapo and many Jews were arrested in other Norwegian cities in an extensive campaign against the Jewish population of Norway launched by the Nazi occupational authorities.
Rabbi Samuel has been charged by the Gestapo with espionage. The charges against the others have not been made known. In the provincial cities, the arrested Jews have been totally dispossessed by an order confiscating all their belongings.
Members of the Quisling party assisted the Gestapo in yesterday’s arrests of Jews throughout southern Norway, the information reaching here today stated. The mass arrests of Jows is considered here as an indication of the Nazis’ fear of a possible Allied invasion of Norway.
