German occupation authorities in Holland are using a new trick to trace Netherlands Jews who have gone into hiding, according to “reliable information” received by the official Netherlands news agency here.
The Germans have announced, report says, that 1,000 Netherlands Jews, together with 9,000 Jews of other nationalities, can be “exchanged” with the Allies for Germans interned in Australia, on payment of 2,000 guilders, approximately $1,000, perhead. Those wishing to be “considered” for such “exchange” are advised that they must fill out a form supplied by the German head office for security in Berlin.
The news agency report said that Netherlands circles in London expressed the belief that the move was merely a hoax on the part of the Germans to induce Netherlands Jews to report to the occupation authorities who would then take them into custody.
