Over $275,000 was donated here last night at the dinner of the Jewish Board of Guardians on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Board. Arthur Stiebel, president of the Board, presided. Lord Reading sent a letter announcing that with the concurrence of the co-trustees he donates $10,000 from the Bernard Baron Fund and also 100 guineas on his own behalf.
Sir Robert Waley Cohen, in proposing the toast of the evening, expressed sorrow at the absence of Lord Reading on account of the recent death of Lady Reading, also sympathy for Chief Rabbi Hertz on the death of Mrs. Hertz. Mr. Steibel described the Board’s activity for the relief of the Jewish poor.
