Work began here yesterday on the construction of a factory for the manufacture of glass, the first of its kind in the entire Near East.
The plant, which will employ 120 workers, is located in Emek Zebulun on land owned by the Jewish National Fund. A group of German and Dutch Jews are sponsoring the project. The factory will manufacture window glass and will be known as Phoenicia, Ltd.
Specialists, engineers and skilled workers have been engaged abroad and will teach the trade to local workers. The directors of the concern are experienced manufacturers from Europe who have been selling their products in the Near East for many years. Sponsors of the plan are investing $156,000 in the necessary plant and equipment.
