A man known all over Australia a “The Wandering Jew” has just arrived here.
His real name is Philip Lewis. He is 64, and was born in the East End of London, of Jewish parents. For the last 39 years he has been wandering over 261,000 miles through remote parts of the continent preaching wherever he could find an audience.
He has covered 73,000 miles of this distance on foot and is proud of the fact that he can make a pair of boots last 800 miles. He is now wearing his ninety-first pair since he started out.
The only money he receives is what is given him by people wishing to help him to continue his mission.
He has had many adventures. “I shall go on walking and preaching till I die,” he says.
