That the hand of Dr. Paul Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Minister of Propaganda, is clearly evident in a vicious attack on the front page of the pro-Hitler Deutsche Zeitung of this city, against Willi Muenzenberg, former Reichstag member, political leader and publisher, was the charge made Friday night by Alfred Wagenknecht, executive secretary of the National Committee to Aid Victims of German Fascism.
Muenzenberg, who is now visiting the United States, was referred to in the Deutsche Zeitung, according to Wagenknecht, as a “sly, unscrupulous Jewish Communist who is an emigrant and sojourns in America.” In the same article the Reichstag member is further described as having “the fine instinct of a Jew who knew how to influence public opinion in the cleverest manner, but kept himself in the background.”
Muenzenberg, however, is not a Jew, Wagenknecht emphasized in his counter attack.
Muenzenberg, now on a speaking tour, will be the chief speaker at an open-air anti-Nazi demonstration in the Bronx Coliseum on July 27, sponsored by the National Committee and the New York Anti-Nazi Federation.
