The Ministry of Propaganda today announced that it has lifted the ban on the Jewish Cultural Union which had been in effect one month.
The ban had been ordered by Propaganda Minister Goebbels immediately following the assassination of the Swiss Nazi leader Wilhelm Gustloff by the Jewish medical student, David Frankfurter.
Although the order was given ostensibly “to prevent anti-Jewish disturbances as a result of the assassination,” it was widely interpreted as the first Nazi reprisal for the killing of Gustloff. The Jewish Cultural Union, organized under Nazi supervision, controls all Jewish artistic and intellectual pursuits in the Reich.
