Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of the World Zionist Organization, will hold discussions in Germany next week on new global reparations demands, he said here tonight. He is scheduled to meet the West German Finance Minister and other key officials in Bonn, next Tuesday.
Dr. Goldmann predicted that the negotiations would be difficult, in view of the current economic situation in Germany. He noted that West Germany has already paid out 14 billion marks ($3,500,000,000) and will pay out an additional six billion marks ($1,500,000,000) in settlement of claims under existing agreements. He expressed the belief that there would not be difficulties in the way of an agreement on reparations for victims of Nazism who were physically unable to file their claims before the 1953 deadline because they were still in Iron Curtain countries.
The world Zionist leader told reporters that he did not anticipate a mass emigration of Jews from Latin American countries to Israel but he said there would be increased immigration into the Jewish State from these lands.
Dr. Goldmann disclosed that, in view of the difficult financial situation of the Jewish Agency, resulting from the influx of immigrants requiring assistance in transportation and resettlement here, he had asked the Israel Government for a meeting of the joint Government-Agency coordinating body to discuss possible solutions. The meeting, he said, would be held in January.
