The Ica headquarters here has received a report from Moscow on the results of the tours of inspection made by the Ica’s agronomists in the Jewish colonies in the regions of Cherson, Dniepropetrovsk and Marioupol.

One hundred and twenty-two inspections were made in the course of these tours. The aim was to determine the results of the harvest, to effect certain work with regard to clearing the seed and providing the population with selected seed for the autumn sowings.

The wheat harvest in the colonies is satisfactory, the report says, both from the point of view of quantity and of quality. In the region of Saporoje the harvest is excellent. Only in the south of the Cherson region (five colonies) has there been an insufficient harvest. Here too the loss caused by the failure of the wheat crop is made up by the income provided by the accessory works, carting, etc., and other branches of rural industry, viticulture, dairy industry, etc.

The Marioupol region possesses vast fields of potatoes where the harvest has been good; all the colonists are sufficiently provided with potatoes for their needs; many even have a surplus which they sell or use as fodder for the cattle.

The new vineyards have begun to yield grapes this year. The vintage was up to the average; in some colonies it suffered from the dry winds of the East.

The graftings of vines which were made last spring have been very successful.
