Jan Ciechanowski, Polish Mniister to the United States, was one of the speakers at the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the Federation of Polish Jews in America at Mecca Temple. Benjamin Winter, president of the Federation, presided.
“At the present time there is no doubt in my mind that considerabe progress has been made in Poland of a social, cultural and political nature towards eliminating the causes of friction and local misunderstanding,” the Polish Minister declared in his address.
“There is no need to convince those who follow the trend of Polish polities of the good will on the part of the Polish Government in its treatment of national or racial minorities. That good will is a fact, and its results have proved most beneficial to all those concerned. The Polish nation as a whole is foolwing the lead of its government.
“On the other hand, it is my pleasant duty to state here that the Jewish population of Poland has also shown considerable good will and loyalty in its Polish citizenship, and a gradually increasing spirit of active cooperation in the development of the country. This was effectively demonstrated in the latest elections to the Polish parliament, when a number of prominent Jewish leaders were elected on the lists of government supporters upon which their names appeared alongside those of the members of the Polish cabinet,” Mr. Ciechanowski stated.
