Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller issued a proclamation today designating next Thursday as Israel Independence Day in New York State. In his statement, the Governor cited the bond of friendship between the United States and Israel and “the mutual regard for the rule of law rather than of man, a precept which we have from the oldest tradition of Jewish culture and custom.”
Governor Rockefeller lauded Israel’s efforts in settling hundreds of thousands of immigrants within her borders where “the dispossessed found the dignity and the chance of self-realization which millions of immigrants have found in the United States of America.”
