The Jews of Britain are observing their second Passover under wartime conditions with special arrangements made by the Ministry of Food to provide supplies under a system of emergency ration cards.
The anxiety of Jews to observe Passover, despite wartime difficulties, is illustrated by the case of 82-year-old Samuel Goldberg, who walked all the way from Wales to London because his Welsh village had no Passover food.
Under the arrangement made by the Ministry of Food, kosher butter was made available in specially printed wrappers and Kosher sugar was also provided, Jewish customers of any retailer unwilling to supply kosher food were given permission to purchase their requirements from another retailer and for this purpose emergency ration cards were issued against coupons from the regular ration books.
