The inciting of the ritual murder agitation in several towns and villages in the province of Banat, on the eve of the Jewish High Holidays was laid at the door of Hungarian agitators in the report of the special ministerial investigating commission.
The commission made public today the results of its investigation. It declares that there is no foundation for the assertion that there is a wide-spread anti-Jewish propaganda in Banat. Simultaneously, it was learned that a number of peasants who were arrested in connection with the agitation in Petrovo Selo have been released in the expectation that this will bring about a complete pacification of the population, which is predominantly Hungarian.
The authorities are reported to have decided to mete out severe punishment in an exemplary manner to a number of Hungarian students who are suspected of being the inciting element. It was stated, however, that those responsible for the agitation could not be apprehended as they have most probably fled to Hungary.
