A decision to grant 250,000 lei for the Jews of Borscha to aid them in their agricultural work, particularly for the purchase of seeds, was made today by the Roumanian cabinet. The government had previously assigned 1,800,000 lei for the victims of the anti-Semitic fire in Borscha. The Jews of Borscha were also recently permitted to use the government timber reserves for the reconstruction of their burned homes.
While these government grants are doing something to mitigate the sufferings of the Jews of Borscha the actual compensation is only a small percent of the damage suffered. With winter coming on their situation is serious. Mayor Protoplescu of the second district of Bucharest today issued an appeal to the population to help the Jews of Borscha with money and gifts of food and clothing.
