If Australia does not improve its economic condition it will be no fault of Governor-General Isaac Isaacs, who has just voluntarily reduced his salary by $5,000. He is entitled to a salary of $50,000. Governor-General Isaacs has also given up his annual judicial pension of $7,000 and has refused to accept the annual allowance of $10,000 for living expenses.

Sir Isaac is the first native-born Governor-General of the commonwealth as well as its first non-Protestant chief executive.
