Governor Charles Poletti was assured yesterday by District Attorney Harold R. Soden of Essex County that acts of vandalism committed in a synagogue at Lake Placild and a Jewish cometery in Saranac Lake do “not represent the true spirit” of Lake Placid residents. The district attorney stated that an investigation of the two incidents is under way.
The Essex County prosecutor’s letter was in reply to a demand by Governor Poletti. last week, that an “immediate and thorough” investigation be made in an attempt to discover the identity of the guilty parties. At that time, the Governor stressed that “religious freedom is the cornerstone of American democracy.”
