Establishment of a graduate department of mathematics at Yeshiva University offering courses leading to the degrees of Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy was announced today by Dr. Samuel Belkin, president. The new department will be part of the University’s Institute of Mathematics, headed by Dr. Jekuthiel Ginsburg. Courses, leading initially to the Master of Arts degree will begin in September. Dr. Ginsburg declared that the new graduate program will be based on the belief in mathematics as an art as well as a science. This philosophy has characterized the activities of the Institute of Mathematics since its establishment in 1933, he explained.
