The Palestine situation was again the subject of discussion in the House of Commons today, with Colonial Secretary J.H. Thomas facing new questions on certain aspects of it.
R.H. Morgan, Conservative, voiced criticism of the fact that a salaried Government employe, Grand Mufti Haj Amin el Husseini, was permitted to act on the Arab strike committee which is actively organizing the strike in ports, railways and Government services in Palestine.
Mr. Thomas, replying to Mr. Morgan’s question on what the Government proposed to do under such circumstances, said he was confident that the High Commissioner for Palestine would advise the Colonial Office if he thought the political actions of any individuals required special action. He said he was aware of the fact that the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem was on the payroll of the Government as president of the Supreme Moslem Council.
