Antony Slonimski, the grandson of a famous Hebrew writer and the son of a baptized Jew, in the third generation, a rabid anti-Semite, was put to shame by the Polish artist Szczuka, when the latter slapped his face in the presence of many guests in a cafe.
Slonimski, who is a talented Polish poet, and whose grandfather was Chaim Selig Slonimski, the Hebrew writer, mathematicism and editor of the Hebrew Daily Hazefera, recently wrote an article in the “Wiadomosci Literackie,” a literary periodical, charging the Jewish artists with polluting Polish art. He also stated that 90% of the Jews were white-slavers, that Jewish art was dirty, and finished by attacking the young Polish poets for associating with Jewish artists. The upshot of this article was the incident in the cafe by Szczuka, who, although a Pole, resented the statements.
Slonimski recently visited Palestine and upon his return wrote many complimentary articles. It is reported that he is at present in a nervous state verging on insanity.
