The King’s Court Bench has granted a contempt of court application against Charles Diamond, editor of the Catholic Herald, for publishing a note concerning a man named Mendelson, who was sent to trial for fraud and released on ???20,000 bail. Mendelson, a Polish Jew, was described as a Pole, to which the editor took exception, making a statement to the effect that Jews are anxious to proclaim their heroes, but when they become involved in a swindle they hide their identity behind the general designation of English, Irish, or Polish.
