An illustrated companion to the Bible, designed to give laymen, as well as students and scholars, a comprehensive understanding of the Old Testament, was published here today by Shengold Publishers, Inc., under the title of “The Graphic History of the Jewish Heritage.”
The volume was prepared and edited by the eminent Hebrew scholar, Pinchas Wallman-Tsamir. It took Mr. Wollman-Tsamir over 25 years to gather and arrange the maze of names, dates, places, genealogies and lineages in chronological order, which he presents in an organized form through graphic design–with charts, tables, illustrations and summaries–to convey the ultimate importance of the Biblical period.
The book contains chronological, genealogical and synchronical charts combined with textual explanations, to depict every phase in the Old Testament from Genesis to the Prophets and the High Priests. The book’s graphs and charts outline, annotate, describe and quote from the Old Testament. Verse and chapter are located, and explanations are given for names, places and events.
Distinguished scholars of world renown have already acclaimed the book as one of the most exciting publishing events in recent years. David Ben-Gurion, former head of the Israeli Government, stated: “I believe that this is the most successful ‘Who’s Who’ of ancient Hebrew history and literature. ” Joseph Schlang, a financier and business executive, organized a foundation that worked with Shengold Publishers in bringing the work to press. Moshe Sheinbaum, president of the company, believes that the book has “afforded the most original way to disseminate knowledge of the Bible.”
