The Greater Miami Jewish community claimed today that it is the first Jewish community in the U.S. to surpass its 1948 goal for the United Jewish Appeal. The announced goal for this year was $1,489,925, of which $1,000,000 was earmarked for the U.J.A. and, according to an announcement by the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, $1,490,000 has already been pledged.
The drive is under the leadership of Joseph R. Stein. A special emergency campaign, outside the regular drive, to provide immediate aid to the embattled Jewish state, which was spearheaded by Abraham Goodman, raised $250,000.
