Greek Jewry was greatly upset today by the speech of General Popadapoulos, commander of the military division at Sorrai, in the course of which he declared: “Our country has two enemies,– communists and Jews.”

He charged the Jews with being enemies of Greece because “the churches in Russia have been converted into stables by Jews, while Jewish synagogues are untouched.”

“Jews wish to destroy Christianity,” he said. “I advise you not to let yourself be influenced by the Jews because they are enemies of Christianity.”

Addressing the Jewish soldiers in the division, he said: “I regret that I have to make you suffer, but these facts are unhappily true.”

The Jewish communities of Serrai and Salonica have lodged indignant protests with the authorities.
