The Greek government has decided to appropriate a part of the ancient Jewish cemetery here for the settlement of Greek refugees from Adrianople. Senator Mallah and Deputies Bessantchi and Matalon have submitted a memorandum asking that the government postpone the proposed confiscation until Parliament meets January 14.

The memorandum expresses the indignation of the Jewish population and shows that the cemetery has been the property of the Jews of Salonica since 1499 when they came here after the Spanish expulsion.
